A magical local wine has emerged as the finest of the year! Quinta de Curvos dazzled the world with its Curvos Loureiro White 2021 and Curvos Superior White 2021, capturing Gold Medals, and the Prova Cega Reserva Red 2019, securing a Silver Medal at the prestigious Wines of Portugal competition.

The amazing garden of the Quinta

During the summer of 2021, we had the pleasure of meeting Miguel, the owner of Quinta de Curvos, at his enchanting estate. Although the Quinta is typically closed to the public, the ever-friendly Miguel (also a kitesurfing enthusiast) greeted us warmly and took us on a journey through his sprawling 10-hectare garden. As a child, Miguel spent countless hours exploring the forested grounds, and it was evident that his love for the estate had only grown over the years.

Stepping into Quinta de Curvos felt like entering the pages of a fairy tale. Miguel led us to a hidden cave nestled beside a serene lake, surrounded by lush gardens and vineyards. It felt as if we had discovered our own secret batcave. He shared with us the incredible biodiversity of the estate, boasting over 400 species of camellias. We couldn’t help but agree that it’s one of the most stunning romantic gardens in Portugal. Naturally, we left with several boxes of their exquisite wine in tow. About Vinho Verde

The region of Vinho Verde in northern Portugal is characterized by its distinct Atlantic influence, marked by a verdant landscape, cool temperatures, and plentiful rainfall. Encompassing around 24,000 hectares, it is Portugal’s largest denomination, with vineyards dotted across the northwest of the country in numerous small plots.

Nestled within the valleys of major rivers, the region’s vineyards flourish in homogenous, predominantly granite soils that are fertile and highly acidic. Some believe the name “Verde” (green) stems from the wine’s characteristic acidity and freshness, reminiscent of unripe fruit, while others attribute it to the region’s lush vegetation, which remains green even in winter.

Back to the Award-winning wine

Returning to the award-winning Quinta de Curvos, the estate’s vines are cultivated using an integrated protection regime, maintaining the balance of agrarian ecosystems. During the vines’ resting period, tractors and herbicides give way to sheep, minimizing environmental impact. It’s no wonder Quinta de Curvos wines have earned such accolades!
