Brejuinha is one of those places you don’t expect to find unless someone tells you about it. Hidden in the forest near the beach of Vila Nova de Anha, it combines good food, nature and a relaxed atmosphere. We discovered it a few years ago and still go back regularly.
A short walk from Yuna (and an important tip)
Brejuinha is only about 2 km from Yuna. Walking there takes around 25 minutes and is actually a very pleasant walk. One important lesson learned: just follow the road. Don’t take random detours into the forest, even if Google Maps suggests them. The straightforward route is the nicest and avoids unnecessary adventures through sand and swampy areas.
What to expect at Brejuinha
Brejuinha is a bar and restaurant set in a large forest garden, close to the beach. There is plenty of space, playground equipment for children and friendly animals roaming around. It’s relaxed, informal and very family-friendly. The staff is welcoming and the prices are fair for both food and drinks.
The food menu has improved over the years and now includes solid crowd-pleasers like good hamburgers, pork ribs and other grilled dishes. It’s a great place to eat after a walk, a beach day or a long summer evening.
BBQ in the forest
One of the things that makes Brejuinha special is the BBQ area. Spread throughout the forest are large picnic tables, each with its own BBQ. For a small fee you can rent a grill and bring your own food and drinks. On sunny weekends this place fills up with Portuguese families spending the afternoon together, kids playing and smoke rising between the trees.
Music and summer atmosphere
In the past, Brejuinha hosted specific festivals and named events. Those exact festivals no longer exist, but every summer there are new gatherings, music evenings and small events. The programming changes each year, but music and dancing are still very much part of the atmosphere, especially on warm summer nights. Expect an informal vibe rather than a fixed festival calendar.
Practical information
Brejuinha is located in Vila Nova de Anha, close to Viana do Castelo, and only a few minutes by car from Yuna. If you eat at the restaurant, overnight parking for motorhomes is usually allowed.
Why we keep coming back
Brejuinha is not about trends or hype. It’s about space, nature, simple good food and long summer days that slowly turn into evenings. Whether you walk there from Yuna, come with kids for the playground, fire up a BBQ or stay late for music, it’s one of those places that feels genuinely local and easygoing.
