Northern Portugal is a haven for both beginner and advanced kitesurfers, offering sunny days, delicious cuisine, and friendly locals. With over 850 km of coastline, the region boasts many hidden gems for kitesurfing enthusiasts.

Praia de Cabedelo: The ultimate kitesurfing spot

Praia de Cabedelo stands out as the top kitesurfing location in Northern Portugal. This extensive beach faces a vast forest, providing ample safe launching spaces without obstacles. The beach features two piers that help create a flat area ideal for kitesurfing, shielded from the waves. Viana do Castelo, located nearby, is another excellent spot known for its strong winds and less crowded beaches. The predominant northwest wind is mostly thermal, enhancing the kitesurfing experience. Always check the weather forecast and expect an additional 10 knots in summer due to the thermal effect.
