Our journey to create the garden at Yuna, our soon-to-be second home in Viana do Castelo, is a tale of discovery, inspiration, and a deep connection with the natural world.

Discovery at Horto da Santas

It all began at Horto da Santas, a hidden gem bustling with rare and exotic plants. The owner’s passion for the natural beauty of his estate was contagious, leading us to a profound realization: our garden should be more than a collection of plants; it should be a declaration of love for nature.

Inspired by Piet Oudolf

Drawing inspiration from Piet Oudolf, we aim to create a garden that comes alive in every season and maintains ecological balance. Our vision is to reflect the natural beauty and diversity of the Portuguese landscape, embracing sustainable gardening and biodiversity.

Our Vision for Yuna’s garden

  1. Harmonious trees and plants: Selecting native species to ensure a vibrant biodiversity and unique beauty in every season.
  2. Wooden terraces: Providing serene spots to enjoy the natural splendor of the garden.
  3. Natural green railings: Plants covering the terraces’ railings to create a seamless transition between the house and garden.
  4. Shaded plant corner: A peaceful green area on the shady side of the house, including a tree for beauty and privacy.
  5. Stone terrace with natural greenery: The stone terrace behind the house, surrounded by upward-growing plants, becomes a natural viewpoint.
  6. Pergola with climbing plants: Native climbers under the pergola for natural shade and seasonal changes.
  7. Stones with a story: Reusing beautiful stones excavated from our land, creating small habitats for plants and wildlife.

At Yuna, we aim to create a garden that’s not just beautiful, but a sustainable haven for local flora and fauna, offering a different experience with each day and season.
