After a full season of watching guests slow down on the terrace and reading the messages you sent afterwards, we came home with a head full of ideas. In October we head back to Portugal to get started, and here’s what’s on the list. None of it is rushed, and not everything happens at once, but it’s all taking shape.
More flowers in the garden
The garden has had a year to settle in, and now we know it better. This season we’re shifting the balance: a little less grasses, and a lot more flowers. More colour, more scent, more for the bees, the kind of planting that changes through the year and gives you something new to notice every morning with your coffee. It’s slowly growing into the wild, layered garden we always pictured.
A wooden terrace and outdoor kitchen behind Yuna One
Behind Yuna One there’s a spot we keep picturing finished: a new wooden terrace with a proper outdoor kitchen, where cooking becomes part of the evening rather than a reason to step back indoors. The terrace still has to be built, but we can already see it clearly. Hands in the salad while the grill does its thing, a glass of wine within reach, dinner drifting later and later as the light goes soft. It’s the part of the house we found ourselves wishing for most.
A sauna at the very top
Higher up, another idea keeps pulling at us. The day we first walked this land we learned something simple: the further up the hill you go, the better the view. So we keep coming back to a small sauna right at the top. First we’ll prepare the ground and lay a solid base, then plant around it so it settles into the hillside rather than sitting on top of it. The reward is easy to picture, warm wood, a wide window, and the whole coastline laid out in front of you. Step out after the heat, cool down in the open air, and watch the Atlantic turn gold as the sun goes down.
Got an idea? Tell us.
Here’s where you come in. So many of the best touches at Yuna started as a guest’s offhand comment, something you missed, something you loved, something you wished was there. As we head into this next chapter, we’d genuinely love to hear it. If you have a suggestion for what we should add, plant or build, send us a message. We read every one, and who knows, your idea might be the next thing taking shape on the hill.
